Fit an alarm system in a prominent position.

Use timers to switch lights and other equipment on and off, giving the illusion someone is at home.

Fit a lantern or floodlight with a PIR ( movement sensitive ) sensor. This will be triggered by visitors to your front door.

Check who’s at the door by fitting a spy hole, door chain or CCTV camera.

Fit window locks or door/window alarms on all windows and display neighbourhood watch and CCTV stickers.

Plant thorny shrubs to deter unwanted visitors from climbing over fences or walls. Also ensure that hedges and trees are cut back so that it is difficult for anybody to conceal themselves.

Security lock your shed and fit a shed alarm to protect your valuable equipment. Make sure you lock ladders away.

Install security lanterns and garden lighting with PIR movement sensors that automatically turn the light on when movement is detected to ensure your garden is well illuminated.

Fit a dummy alarm box at the rear of the house.

Use gravel and pebbles on driveways and paths to enable you to hear visitors approaching your house.
